Efficient Maintenance Guide for Oil-Free Air Compressors: Key Steps to Extend Service Life
Jul 22 , 2025

Oil-free air compressors require regular inspection and maintenance after being used for a period of time. From startup to operation, then to material inspection, and finally scheduled component maintenance, these steps can help extend the service life of oil-free air compressors. Below, we will explain in detail the key points to pay attention to. Let's take a look!

Methods to Extend the Service Life of Oil-Free Air Compressors:

First, follow the operating procedures of the oil-free air compressor equipment. Most shutdown procedures are the reverse of the startup procedures. Simply reduce the speed gradually to a very low level. Fully open the exhaust branch valve, completely close the exhaust valve, shut down the drive motor, and confirm that the entire series of air compressor equipment will gradually stop automatically. Do not stop the cooling water supply within 30 minutes after the equipment stops.

Second, after completing the operation of the oil-free air compressor equipment, pay attention to inspecting the cutting at all levels and the fit between the cutting parts and the cutting body. If there are cracks on the cutting parts, replace them with spare parts. Inspect the front covers of the cylinders at all levels and check the friction marks on the cylinder mirror surfaces. If there are friction marks, identify the cause. Check the friction surfaces of the cross slide and the body guide rails. Remove the connecting rod big end bushings and crosshead pins, and inspect the friction surfaces for wear.

Similarly, it is necessary to check whether the oil level indicated by the oil level indicator meets the requirements. Also, inspect the connections and fastenings of the components. If any are loose, secure them promptly. Observe and determine whether the moving parts are flexible. Rotate the flywheel by hand to let the oil-free air compressor idle two or three times. If there is any jamming or collision,

Then, pay attention to checking the quality of the lubricating oil in the oil-free air compressor and replace the lubricating oil in the body. After the initial operation of the oil-free air compressor, due to the running-in of parts and the cleaning effect of the lubricating oil, a large amount of fine metal particles will enter the lubricating oil. Therefore, all the lubricating oil should be replaced after 24 hours of operation. Replace the oil again after 200 hours of operation. After these two replacements, follow the regular maintenance requirements for oil changes.

Maintenance of Key Components of Oil-Free Air Compressors:

1. When performing maintenance or replacing components according to the above table, ensure that: the pressure in the oil-free air compressor system has been released, it has been isolated from other pressure sources, the main circuit switch has been disconnected, and a safety label indicating "No Closing" has been posted.

2. The replacement interval for the compressor's cooling lubricating oil depends on the operating environment, humidity, dust, and the presence of acidic or alkaline gases in the air. For newly purchased oil-free silent air compressors, the oil must be replaced after the first 500 hours of operation. After that, replace the oil every 4,000 hours under normal conditions. For machines that operate less than 4,000 hours annually, the oil should be replaced once a year.

3. The oil filter must be replaced after the first 300-500 hours of operation, the second replacement after 2,000 hours, and then every 2,000 hours under normal conditions.

4. When maintaining or replacing the air filter or intake valve, be sure to prevent any debris from falling into the compressor's main unit cavity. During the operation, seal the main unit inlet. After completing the operation, manually rotate the main unit several times in the correct direction to ensure there are no obstructions before starting the machine.

5. Check the belt tension every 2,000 hours of operation. If the belt is loose, adjust it until it is properly tensioned. To protect the belt, avoid contamination by oil during the entire process, as this can render the belt unusable.

6. Every time the oil is changed, the oil filter must also be replaced.
