Application of vacuum pumps in plastics processing

Vacuum pumps are used in a wide range of applications in the plastics processing industry, and here are some of the main applications and technical advantages:

1.Extruder degassing: Vacuum pumps play an important role in the degassing of plastics, removing substances that affect product quality, such as water vapor, toxic and corrosive gases, and impurities. Low-pressure degassing of the polymer melt using a vacuum pump on the extruder can be used when the polymer melt is mixed with additives and colorants to form different grades of melt and during its molding.

2.Plastic recycling: Vacuum systems help to remove entrained gases and assist in the chemical reactions in the solid recovery of PET, HDPE, LDPE, PC, ABS and even liquid PET.

3.Plastic compounding and masterbatch processing: The compounding of plastics requires several key conditions to achieve a homogeneous mix of raw materials and additives. During the extrusion process, different zones are heated according to the properties of the resin, and each zone must maintain a uniform pressure and temperature.

4.Vacuum-forming: Vacuum-formed products are ubiquitous, such as chocolate packaging trays, suitcases, and even car dashboards. The molding process involves heating a plastic sheet to a certain temperature, stretching it on a single-sided mold, and then applying a vacuum to the mold to shape it.

5.Polymer and bio-based plastics processing: Plastics derived from natural and renewable resources reduce emissions and dependence on fossil fuels. Bio-based polymers, such as polylactic acid, obtained by crop fermentation, are prepared by direct or indirect polymerization of lactide intermediates. Vacuum is essential for initiating and assisting polymerization reactions, as well as for extracting unreacted monomers.

6.Central vacuum system: In the field of vacuum generation in plastics processing, a central vacuum system can provide a stable and waste-free supply of vacuum sources, avoiding the impact of wasted power, heat, noise, and environmental considerations on working conditions and personnel.
